Many, many years ago I had an unforgettable dream. I found myself in an underground prison with just two other people and suddenly a group of men were being led like a chain gang to walk the ‘Green Mile.’ I sensed the urgency and I desperately began to share the good news of Jesus Christ with them. Some years later I began a 15-year journey being a caregiver for my elderly grandparents who were homebound due to their medical conditions. Once my grandparents went to be with the Lord, I devoted almost a decade to helping those who have been incarcerated successfully reintegrate into society by sharing messages about finding freedom through healthy mindsets, behaviors, and relationships.

I maintain a partnership with the Chaplains at The Salvation Army Residential Reentry Center in Chicago, which houses approximately 300 residents coming from federal prisons from all over the United States. Often, these men and women lack family support and essentials for daily living. I recently began Ancient Keys as a ministry devoted to meeting the spiritual and practical needs of the residents in the form of donations of clothing, hygiene products, and bible study resources, to name a few. We may be able to help with buying them a coat for winter or school supplies for one of their children or a rent deposit for their first apartment. The needs are endless and I’ll be sure to steward the resources well. If you’d like to donate in any other way, reach out with your ideas, and let’s talk about it.

ISAIAH 61:1-3

The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all who mourn, and provide for those who grieve in Zion—to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair. They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the Lord for the display of his splendor.
